Far too many people who suffer needlessly because they don’t have the knowledge or support system needed to navigate the healthcare system and successfully address their medical needs. Every day, people must cancel surgeries, miss therapy and physician appointments, fail to pick up vital prescriptions, and do without much needed medical equipment (walkers, wheelchairs, canes, crutches, toilet seats, etc.). It is also heartbreaking when you consider the vast number of people who are inhibited from convalescing and recovering from procedures in comfort and security, because their living situations are not properly set up or unable to accommodate their needs.
One of the next phases of the Hawkins Family Foundation mission is to put together teams to function as advocates, helping people maneuver through the world of healthcare. Our healthcare advocacy program will offer guidance on medical care issues from scheduling appointments to preparing for surgical procedures and post operative care. The program will also offer transportation to/from office/therapy/hospital visits, as well as providing medical equipment.
